Structural Strengthening and Seismic Retrofitting

Strengthening and repair solutions that increase the load-bearing capacity of existing structures and improve their seismic resistance. From carbon fiber systems to structural crack repair, executed faithfully to the design and fully documented.

Overview

Demolishing and rebuilding is not always the only option.

A significant part of Turkey’s building stock was constructed before today’s seismic realities and service loads. A change of use over time, increased loads or an earthquake the building has been through can call into question the load-bearing capacity of even a sound-looking structure. A properly designed strengthening intervention is, in most cases, the fastest and most economical way to extend a structure’s safe service life.

Strengthening is, by its nature, engineering-design work. Our applications are carried out under the supervision of our civil engineering staff, adhering to a strengthening design based on the assessment of the existing condition and to the provisions of the applicable codes. Every stage is documented, because the value of an intervention in a load-bearing system only becomes meaningful with its traceability.

Highlights in this area
  • Faithful to the design: The application is carried out without deviating from the details and scope defined by the strengthening design.
  • Engineering supervision: Every intervention in the load-bearing system is performed under civil engineer supervision.
  • Work in occupied structures: Interventions planned in facilities in active use, without disrupting operations.
  • Traceable records: Application steps are documented and handed over in full at completion.
Application types

The right intervention for each structural element.

The principal systems we apply according to the scope defined by the strengthening design and the condition of the structural element.

Type 01

Carbon Fiber Laminate

A laminate-based strengthening system that increases the load-bearing capacity of structural elements without enlarging the cross-section.

Beams · Slabs

Type 02

Carbon Fiber Fabric

A fabric-based strengthening system that adds ductility and strength by wrapping the element.

Column confinement · Joints

Type 03

Column and Beam Strengthening

Capacity-increase applications on the vertical and horizontal elements of the load-bearing system, in line with the design.

Where we apply

In facilities where production continues, not stops.

Strengthening usually comes up not in a vacated building but in a facility with production and use ongoing. We phase the intervention around the operating schedule and keep disruption to a minimum.

Standards discipline

Strengthening without a design is not strengthening.

Every intervention in a load-bearing system requires a strengthening design based on the assessment of the existing condition, and compliance with the applicable codes. We carry out our applications within this framework, with manufacturer system approvals and complete application records.
