Water Tanks and Water-Retaining Structures

Making tanks and reservoirs in permanent water contact watertight from the inside and the outside, with systems certified for drinking water contact.

Why tank waterproofing

This time the duty is reversed: the water must stay in.

A water tank is a special structure where the logic of waterproofing works in reverse. While on every other surface we try to keep water away from the structure, here the water must be held safely inside while the structure is protected from the effects of permanent water contact. And in drinking water tanks, one more dimension is added: the selected system must be certified as suitable for water hygiene.

In tank work we know the facility’s reality: a tank is a resource the operation needs, and it cannot stay out of service for long. That is why we plan the application to minimize the time the tank is offline, and before handover we test the watertightness and record the results.

What sets this system apart
  • Certified system selection: In drinking water tanks, systems certified for water contact are used.
  • Two-way protection: While the water is held inside, the structure is also protected from the effects of permanent contact.
  • Short downtime: The application is planned around the tank’s operating schedule.
  • Testing before handover: The work is not handed over before watertightness is verified.
Where it is used

In every structure that must hold water safely.

Tank waterproofing covers a wide scope, from drinking water to fire reserves, from new construction to repair.

System cross-section

A surface that lives with water, permanently.

Tank waterproofing works under uninterrupted water contact from the moment it is applied. The layers’ duty is not watertightness alone; it is also protecting the structure and keeping the interior surface cleanable.

  • WaterThe medium the system works in, in permanent contact.
  • Interior finish surfaceThe cleanable interior surface layer, suitable for water hygiene.
  • Waterproofing layerHolding the water inside: the layer carrying the system’s real duty.
  • Surface preparationThe stage where the surface is prepared so the waterproofing can be applied without interruption.
  • Structural elementThe concrete structure the system protects, its condition assessed beforehand.
System options

The right approach for the tank’s condition.

A new build and the renewal of a tank in service require different planning and different approaches.

Key properties

What is expected of a tank waterproofing.

Reliable watertightness

Verified water retention, tested before handover.

Suitability for water hygiene

Systems certified for drinking water contact.

A cleanable interior surface

An even surface fit for periodic maintenance and cleaning.

Protects the structure from within

Cuts off the effect of permanent water contact on the structure.

Predictable commissioning

Planned handover in step with the operating schedule.

Traceable records

Application steps are documented and handed over at delivery.

Scope scaled to the structure’s condition

The tank’s history defines the scope of the work.

The classification below is indicative only. The final scope is determined by assessing the tank’s existing condition, its intended use and the operating conditions on site.
